You Won’t Believe What Is The Most Popular Christmas Food In Australia

Turns out, every state has a very significantly different taste in what is the best Christmas food ever.

The whole world knows Christmas is done differently in Australia, we prefer barbeque to stuffing and prefer ham to turkey. However, it's not that simple - every state has very specific preferences. And no, this is not my expert opinion, it's Coles survey results!

Coles surveyed 7500 customers to find out what Aussies like as their favourite Christmas meal - and found some surprising yet very fitting food choices from every state.

Before we dive into what is different, we need to talk about how everyone in this country is a fan of cherries! Cherries are a festive staple for Aussies, the idea of fresh cherries on a sunny Christmas afternoon does sound bloody divine! Plus, when it comes to desserts - Pavlovas win across the country!

However, what I was surprised about is that Aussies like cherries and mangoes on their Pavlovas, not the classic kiwi and strawberries!

Specifically, Tassie and South Australia have a sweet tooth, having the highest consumption of pavlovas, fruit mince pies and puddings in the country.

On the other hand, NSW has VERY fancy taste - their favourite Christmas food is WA rock lobsters (they consume more rock lobsters than its home state!) and champagne and sparkling! Ummm, NSW peeps really pulling out all the stops!

Our favourite sunshine state Queensland focus more on the centrepieces of their Christmas meals- prawns and a crisp cold beer. I would expect nothing less from Queenslanders.

Victoria and almost all the other states love love love Christmas Ham- but then again what's not to love right?

Also, almost 60% of Aussies prefer a Christmas lunch to a Christmas dinner and I agree. When it's sunny and beautiful the holiday mood just hits different!

Has this survey inspired you to mix up your Christmas menu this year or just feel reassured that you have good taste!
