Everything We Know About Amazon's 'Lord of the Rings' TV Series
Amazon Prime is gracing us with a Lord of The Rings Series and they are bringing out all the stops.
Amazon has big plans for the series, they seem to be aiming at beating Game Of Thrones record with allocating a $1 billion budget and a commitment of 5 whole seasons.
What is the expected release date?
The series currently doesn't have an official premiere date, although Amazon officials are aiming for 2021. Production was delayed due to COVID-19 but with New Zealand being one of the first countries to be COVID free, they were able to re-start production in July.
What do we know about the plot?
Although Prime has been very scarce with the information they are sharing about the series, earlier this year they tweeted a map, that had fans screaming with excitement.
Here is what we know so far, it's going to be set in the "Second Age" of Tolkien's universe, that means that Frodo Baggins and Samwise Gamgee will not be making an appearance. Additionally, the show is expected to be a sort of prequel that will dive into the Middle Earth's rich history and mythology.
The two labelled territories on the map are Minas Anor and Minas Ithil, locations that we have seen before. Minas Anor is where the Battle of the Pelennor Fields took place in The Return of the King and Minas Ithil is the creepy green forest that Frodo, Sam, and Gollum sneak past when the Witch King of Angmar flies out on his fell beast to join the battle. Another easter egg left by this map is the presence of the island of NΓΊmenor which was a land of Men that was destroyed after they refused to worship the one god Eru IlΓΊvatar and rebelled against the angelic Valar so it will be interesting to see how they work with that.
One more reason to look forward to 2021, Amazon Prime we are ready!
