10 Best Brunch Spots In Melbourne That You Have To Try Once Lockdown Is Over
It’s no secret that Melbourne has built a reputation for world-class coffee and mouth-watering culinary experiences.
Local cafes have transformed brunch into an art form - the ripper interiors, the plate presentation, and so many choices of different coffee brew it’ll leave you dizzy.
Although there is an endless choice of Insta-worthy brunches in every corner of Melbourne, we have rounded up some of our favourite spots that we guarantee will give your followers some major FOMO once we’re all allowed back outside again.
1. Abacus Kitchen & Brew, South Yarra
Located near the Prahan Market, Abacus Kitchen & Brew was an old bank building in its previous life but was reborn as a gorgeous cafe with high ceilings, industrial decor and an OTT menu. Their tropical finishes and vibrant plate settings definitely deserve a spot on your feed.
We recommend trying: Slow-fried Cauliflower Steak and Avocado with Pumpkin Croquettes.
2. Higher Ground, CBD
Another refurbished winner, don’t be surprised if you see more photography equipment than food on some tables, the stripped-back walls, giant arched windows, 15m high ceilings make it an Instagram gold-mine, and the foods pretty spectacular too.
We recommend trying: Minced Lamb Fry-up and Mandarin Cheesecake.
3. Kettle Black, South Melbourne
Classic on the outside, luxe on the inside is how we would describe Kettle Black’s vibe. They’ve celebrated the Victorian terrace but polished their interiors with contemporary designs. Their efforts don’t stop there, everything on their delicious and boujee menu is so pretty we struggled to pick which we loved most.
We recommend trying: Crayfish in an Ash Roll and Ricotta Hotcakes.
4. Auction Room, North Melbourne
When you enter this blue-bricked warehouse you’ll be amazed at the spacious and sun-filled interiors. They’re frequently changing their menu to keep things interesting and have dishes that are attractive to your eyes and appetite.
We recommend trying: Pressed Lamb Shoulder with Romesco Sauce and the Whole Roasted Cauliflower with Macadamia Cream.
5. Proud Mary Coffee, Collingwood
Proud Mary is the ultimate all-rounder, apart from serving amazing brekky options, they also educate their customers about coffee, sell their own-roasted coffee and have an extensive coffee menu you can choose from. They care about what they serve and honestly, it shows.
We recommend trying: Bacon Katsu Sando and the Coffee Showcase Special of the week.
6. Flovie Florist Cafe, Carlton
Flovie has unique fresh flowers settings decor, have drinks named after Disney flicks and serve modern versions of brunch classics, need we say more?
We recommend trying: Cha Siu Pulled Pork Eggs Benedict and the Little Mermaid and Snow White Mocktails.
7. Bawa, Hawthorn
Bawa’s decor is inspired by the architect who wanted to embed his designs with its surroundings. So trust the cafe to exude Melbourne vibes with suspended gardens and massive windows. We love their one of a kind coffee menu, they serve shot of espresso with tonic water and lime over ice. Doesn’t that sound weirdly awesome?
We recommend trying: Egg Benedict with champagne poached apples.
8. Industry Beans, Fitzroy
Brace yourselves, everything on this menu is so mind-blowing and vivid with flavour that deciding on what you want from the menu is going to be a mammoth of a challenge. They’ve mastered combining the 2 drinks Melbourne loves most - Coffee and Bubble Tea and created the delicious Cold Brew Bubble Cup and we are obsessed.
We recommend trying - Coffee Garden Dessert, Juniper Berry Sous Vide Salmon and the Cold Brew Bubble Cup of course.
9. Black Gold, Richmond
At Black Gold, the food takes centre stage, they offer a lot of fresh, wholesome and healthy menu options that look as delicious as they taste.
We recommend trying: “Not another smashed Avo” and Acai Pancakes.
10. Humble Rays, Carlton
Humble Rays pastel decor contrast so well with their vibrant dishes, it’s bound to leave your followers wide-eyed! Celebrating all the international students in Carlton, the dishes have a heavy Asian influence and what screams Melbourne brunch like fusion food?
We recommend trying: Eggs Benny and Matcha Latte.
Honorary Mention: Mörk Chocolate
Okay, this isn’t a brunch spot, but when it comes to Instagramable drinks, Mork Chocolate’s menu is one of the fanciest in town.
They offer heaps of chocolate delights, but our favourite has to be the iconic Campfire Hot Chocolate, the drink comes with hot dark chocolate served with sea salt, an upside-down glass full of Beachwood smoke and a toasted vanilla bean marshmallow. We don’t know what we love more, the theatrics or the decadent flavour of this drink.
