Here’s How You Can Use Your Tik-Tok Skills To Land a Job

It all started with one very frustrated Gen Z tired of applying for jobs.

On one fine and particularly frustrating morning, TikTokers Elizaveta Prigozhina made a Tik-Tok venting away her frustrations about how sh*tty the job-hunting process was and how she was just fed-up with being ghosted and rejected.

You know what happened the next day? Her video blew up and over 10 different companies sent her interview requests! Turns out going viral doesn't give you just clout, it can also land you a whole-ass job!

It's safe to say that this started a full-on trend that other Tiktokers and recruiters hopped on. Tik-Tok themselves found getting on board too and launched Tik-Tok resumes to help their users make the most out of this opportunity. All though Tik-Toks official tiktokresume.com effort only lasted a month, people are still using TikTok to get recruiters attention.

Why use Tik-Tok to apply for jobs?

The reason Tik-Tok is so popular is because it can give anyone the opportunity to go viral. It has the potential to get your video to reach millions more than any other platform can. Plus, video resumes seem to be the future of job apps anyway!

According to LinkedIn, almost 80% of hiring managers believe that video has become more important when it comes to interacting with or vetting job candidates.

Plus, most of us know how to make basic videos on Tik-Tok so why not put a skill you already posses to good use?

Brands from every industry are now on Tik-Tok although it's more unlikely for big consultation firms or orgs like that to turn to Tik-Tok just yet, there are heaps of companies that have actively looked for candidates on Tik-Tok here are some examples:

The best part is most recruiters hunting for candidates on Tik-Tok are recruiting for young, tech-savvy and entry-level positions, perfect for someone who’s just graduating right?

Specifically, now companies are very aggressively hiring as an after-effect of the pandemic, so recruiters are thinking out of the box to reach out to the best candidates first.

What are the main things you should include in your tiktok resume?

Firstly, take advantage of the 2-mins video feature, recruiters arent your regular scrollers they'll take their time to watch the video if you can grab their attention wiht your video.

However, you need to make sure the purpose of your video is pretty clear from the beginning so that they dont scroll and miss their opportunity to hire you!

Here's what we recommend:

1.Have text like "why you shold hire me" "looking for a job" "attention recruiters" in your opening slide.

2.Add captions, it's like subtitles for all the important things your saying and you know how some people cant watch movies without subtitles? same logic!

3. Briefly touch on your educational background and where you are located

4.If you have work experience, add titles/bullet points of your expeirence and elaborate on them by talking. If you can showcase your previous work in your video even better!

5. Dont be afraid to show your personality/creativity with your editing skills, if recruiters are looking on Tik-Tok then you know that's something they will value.

6. Dont add your last name, phone number and email in the video, when people reach out you can give them that information- you know for privacy and safety reasons!
