We Tried The Ricotta Toast Trend, And We Have Some Thoughts

Ricotta cheese needs to be more celebrated, it’s so creamy and rich but is Ricotta Toast the new avocado toast? We tried a few versions to decide.

I have to admit, I’m a cliche Melburnian who loves a good pretentious avo-toast with some poached eggs, so it hit a nerve when everyone said avo-toast was so “yesterday” so to prove everyone wrong I ran to the shops, bought me some ricotta cheese and sourdough bread looked up some recipes to try.

1. With Cherry Tomatoes

Okay, savoury was delicious, it’s creamy and actually married very well with the tomatoes, it’s like a very fancy toastie, sweet, sour, and rich! I’d give it an 8/10 for sure. if you’re keen you this is the recipe that I used.

The only reason I deducted 2 points, it’s too much effort in comparison to an avo-toast.

2. With Honey & Banana

Oh, I was a little sceptical of this, I just could not comprehend sweet ricotta toast, but it was Lizzo approved so I had to try it! Have to say I liked this one better than the savoury one, I understand the hype it’s a good and less sweet alternative to peanut butter, banana and honey - LOVED IT! If you want to follow the recipe I used you can find it here

Also, side note, I think ricotta and jam on sourdough would make a smashing addition to any cheese platter.

Here’s the verdict - Definitely going to eat this more often, and will probably alternate with avo-toast, but avo-toast is not going anywhere, period.

Will you try this?
